Our interview with COO Gianluca Montesano: quality, KPI culture, and continuous improvement at ILPRA
In the latest Becoming ILPRA interview, our Chief Operating Officer Gianluca Montesano shared how we manage operations at ILPRA, and how our focus on people, performance tracking, and continuous improvement supports the quality standards our customers expect.
Gianluca explained that he has been part of ILPRA since 2018, after starting his career journey in 2011 with responsibilities in international sales. Today, his role covers a wide range of functions across the business, including internal production, assembly, technical office, service, automation, and production planning and scheduling.
With around 200 people in the company, Gianluca emphasised that maintaining a high quality output is a team effort, built on daily collaboration and strong internal coordination. This is what helps ILPRA stay aligned with company goals and deliver reliable machinery performance.
In Gianluca’s words:
“My work focuses on monitoring the KPIs we’ve defined for each process. I check progress every day to see whether there are any deviations. When something changes, we work with the team to understand the root cause and solve it properly so the issue doesn’t happen again. For us, that’s the foundation of continuous improvement.”
How ILPRA Manages Quality Through KPI Tracking
A key theme in the interview was how we use KPIs as a practical tool, not just a reporting system. Gianluca explained that performance indicators only become meaningful when people are involved and understand the purpose behind them. At ILPRA, objectives are shared clearly with teams and linked to measurable outcomes, helping everyone see how their work contributes to wider company performance.
This approach also creates stronger engagement. When teams understand targets and tracking methods, they are more likely to highlight issues early, propose solutions, and take ownership of improvements, because reaching the objective is directly connected to both performance and recognition.
Investing in People to Support Long-Term Growth
Ultimately, Gianluca highlighted that the path to long term growth is driven by investing in people. In his view, the most sustainable way to keep improving results year after year is by training teams, helping individuals grow, and reinforcing a culture where everyone understands they are part of a wider group working towards shared goals.
